Regina Clemens, MD, PhD

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics

Gina Clemens was born and raised in St. Louis, attended Washington University as an undergraduate, then left to spend time on both coasts in an MD/PhD program at University of Pennsylvania followed by residency and fellowship at UC-San Francisco. She returned to St. Louis in 2017 and has been enjoying attending in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and the incredible research environment of Washington University. Her research interests are focused on signaling mechanisms, in particular ion channels, that regulate neutrophil activation during infection and inflammation. Outside of work, she plays outside with her family which includes her wife, 3 boys, 4 chickens, two cats and 1 very cute dog.

Mingyi joined the lab in summer 2021 and is currently a graduating senior. She will spend her gap year continuing doing research in lab and working as a medical scribe (so excited!). She is majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Anthropology. Outside of school/work, she loves to watch tv shows (now watching Peaky Blinders), bake, and travel. She is a cat person and has a cat back home named Ginger.

Staff Scientist

Fan Yang was born and raised in China. Yang earned her PhD at Oklahoma State University and then worked as a research assistant at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She moved to St. Louis with her husband in 2021 and joined Clemens’s lab as a Staff Scientist. She has been enjoying studying neutrophils and surrounded by incredible scientists at Washington University. In her free time, she likes spending time with family, cooking, catching up on TV, and road trip with her husband.

Deepu Dev

Deepu Dev

Research Technician II

Deepu Dev is from India and where he completed his Masters in Biotechnology. He joined the Clemens lab as a research technician in June 2021. He has a love aquariums (having a small one with lot of Guppies at home), football (soccer), cooking and also learning languages. Recently, he became interested in Korean dramas and geocaching.

We currently have openings for clinical fellows looking for research labs and DBBS students who are interested in lab rotations. We have several exciting projects that are waiting for a graduate student interested in neutrophils, inflammation or host-pathogen interactions.
